TRIUMPH Track

Overview:
We offer a 4-year combined program in internal medicine and preventive medicine. Program includes a Master of Public Health from Yale University.  At the completion of the program, candidates are eligible for both internal medicine and preventive medicine boards.  There are 3 main components of this training program:
  • The Clinical training (completed at Griffin Hospital and Yale University School of Medicine);
  • The Academic phase, consisting of the Masters in Public Health degree course work (completed at Yale School of Public Health); and
  • The Practicum Year (completed at various affiliated sites).
We are proud to offer two tracks within our Combined Residency Program : (1) TRIUMPH Track (Training Residents to Improve Underserved & Minority Populations' Health), (2) Cancer Prevention Track

1)   (Training Resident to Improve Underserved Minority Populations' Health) Project

In June 2004, Department of Health and Human Services had funded approximately $526,061 to create an innovative combined training program in combined internal medicine and preventive medicine. The Yale University School of Public Health and Griffin Hospital collaborated to train residents in TRIUMPH Track.

The TRIUMPH project residents were exposed to underserved populations and special populations such as elderly, individuals with HIV/AIDS, substance abusers, and racial and ethnic minorities. During the Academic Phase, while they were meeting the requirements for the MPH degree, residents were encouraged to identify course work that specifically enhanced their understanding of the health issues of underserved populations and women. Residents completed a thesis or a Capstone Course during their course work and were encouraged to complete projects relevant to TRIUMPH that address the issues of the underserved or special populations as identified by HRSA.  While the funding has period has ended, program still maintains various components of this training program.
