The IMC provides services to a wide range of people including those suffering from conditions (generally chronic, long-term illnesses such as back, neck and joint pain, headaches, digestive disorders, allergies, women’ health issues, diabetes, fatigue, fibromyalgia, etc.) that have not responded well to conventional medicine, as well as those individuals simply interested in natural medicine and a more holistic approach to healthcare.  Opportunities to get involved with research in Integrative medicine are also available. This rotation will involve working with quality improvement department and may involve working with staff of continuing care, pathway committee, and department of Patient Safety.  Residents are expected to attend important management meetings, work on assignments given by the Patient Safety and Quality Improvement department. Mini Fellowship in cancer prevention in July and August at NCI in Maryland.  The overall objective of the course is to provide specialized instruction in the principles and practice of cancer prevention and control. The course focuses on the concepts, methods, issues, and applications related to this field. Participants have the opportunity to gain a broad-based perspective of these subjects including resources, data, methods, and theories. Lifetime learning skills include critical appraisal of the literature and bibliographic search concepts and techniques. This course requires application submission.

These electives are meant to be for medical students but we are hoping that CDC will allow PM residents on per case basis to do rotations at CDC.

The Epidemiology Elective Program for Senior Medical and Veterinary Students
The Epidemiology Program Office (EPO) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) offers an elective in epidemiology for senior medical and veterinary students. The purpose of the elective is to provide an introduction to preventive medicine, public health and the principles of applied epidemiology.
Elective students are offered the opportunity to actively assist in epidemiologic investigations of infectious diseases and areas such as cancer, congenital malformations, environmental and occupational diseases, injuries (intentional and unintentional), chronic diseases, and reproductive health and population dynamics. Students are also exposed to the day-to-day operation of CDC's nationwide surveillance system.
Interested students should complete and submit an application form together with two letters of recommendation. May 30th is deadline for submission.
