Faculty Development

Griffin Hospital is one of the few community hospitals in the country that has been funded to work with John Hopkins University faculty to develop and implement a state of art Faculty Development Program. This innovative program includes a variety of workshops for full-time faculty and physicians throughout the community on providing feedback, precepting, and leading and teaching in small groups. Along with providing quarterly workshops this program offers a series of highly interactive sessions to teach faculty how to observe and evaluate the six ACGME competencies. This unique program has been extremely successful since inception and Griffin community based faculty enthusiastically participate in the design and implementation of the program.

This three-year initiative was established in response to a shortage of faculty who have been trained to teach primary care in community-based residency programs. In partnership with the Johns Hopkins Medical Center, our new Faculty Development Initiative provides two tracks of faculty training. Track 1, the Type III Primary Care Faculty Leadership Fellowship, is a program of advanced teaching and leadership skills tailored to the needs of experienced faculty. Track 2, the Type IV Griffin Primary Care Community Faculty Leadership Program, provides basic training and leadership skills training designed especially for prospective and current community-based primary care teachers and preceptors.
