Training & Education

The Department of Internal Medicine is committed to excellence in clinical education. Our philosophy is that the best residency training occurs when professional responsibility and autonomy increase commensurate with demonstrated competence within a supportive environment. Our program has established a core group of dedicated full time clinician-educators where outstanding teachers establish a mentoring relationship with each member of the medical house staff to ensure both high-quality education and appropriate supervision. We emphasize research skills and population-based approaches as well as team learning, study groups, and case-based methodology. We view our educational goal to be well-trained physicians, competent in the knowledge and skills of clinical internal medicine, public health and preventive medicine, able to work in a community practice or an academic setting, committed to a community-based approach and comfortable in continuing their life-long learning in their chosen field.
