The Department of Internal Medicine

The Department of Medicine of Griffin Hospital is a clinical department comprised of approximately fifty members. The responsibilities of the department are to insure that all patients treated at Griffin Hospital are provided the highest quality of care within the spectrum of services available. The department has responsibility for credentialing all physicians granted privileges to care for patients at Griffin Hospital. The department has been integral in the development of some of Griffin Hospital's excellent clinical and community-based programs. These include the National Community Center of Excellence in Women's Health, the Valley Women's Health Access Program, the Geriatric Assessment Center, the Griffin Center for Health and Human Rights, and the Ryan White HIV/AIDS programs, all of which are participating in providing training for the resident training programs.

Apart from frequently visiting Yale faculty, all full-time faculty at Griffin have Yale teaching appointments, ongoing research projects and have demonstrated dedication to graduate medical education and to involving residents in their research projects. Faculty are locally involved with advising and conducting research at state and local departments of public health, private foundations, and academic centers of research. Griffin Hospital's program is unique, providing a university-like core group of faculty dedicated to the teaching program in a community-based hospital.
